"Environment – Abu Dhabi "Abu Dhabi continues to develop innovative solutions to enhance adaptation to climate change and protect natural resources

ABU DHABI, 4 JUNE / WAM / Her Excellency Dr. Sheikha Salem Al Dhaheri, Secretary-General of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, confirmed that the Authority has continued, over three decades, to implement environmental programs and projects based on science and innovation, by employing modern technologies and artificial intelligence in monitoring the environment, managing natural resources, and developing solutions that support adaptation to climate change in the emirate.
Al Dhaheri said in her speech on the occasion of World Environment Day 2026, which is celebrated globally this year under the slogan “A Global Call to Climate Action,” that this day represents an opportunity to renew the commitment to protecting natural resources and biodiversity, and enhancing the ability of ecosystems to adapt to the challenges of climate change, in line with the UAE’s vision and directions towards sustainable development.
Her Excellency indicated that the launch of the “Abu Dhabi Climate Change Adaptation Plan for the Environmental Sector 2025-2050” was an important step to enhance the emirate’s readiness to confront the effects of climate change, by protecting groundwater, soil and biodiversity as basic systems to support water and food security and environmental stability, explaining that the plan includes 142 adaptation measures until the year 2050, including 86 projects during the next five years.
She added that the Authority continued to achieve qualitative achievements, including monitoring the return of the Arabian Lynx (Caracal) after an absence of 35 years, in addition to using smart monitoring technologies and drones to monitor more than 700 sites, and preparing the first groundwater atlas documenting more than 118,000 wells in the emirate.
Her Excellency stressed that these efforts reflect the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi’s commitment to continue working with various partners to enhance the emirate’s leadership in the areas of environmental and climate action, and to support the sustainability of natural resources and quality of life.
